Violin and Viola lessons in London
I am based in East London (E11) and teach violin and viola at students' homes.
Violin and Viola lessons in Kent (Ditton, nr. Maidstone)
Unfortunately my Ditton teaching timetable is currently full, but please do get in touch to show interest if you would like to start in a few terms' time. I teach violin and viola at my parents' home in Kent roughly twice a week in Ditton near Maidstone.
I teach all ages and standards and can prepare students for the TrinityGuildhall and ABRSM exams. However, if students just want to work to their own targets or play for fun that is fine too!
I perform regularly as a chamber musician (Duo Figaro; D'Avanzo Piano Trio; D'Avanzo Quartet) and in orchestras (ENO, WNO, Opera North) so am able to offer a high standard of practical guidance. I am qualified with a BMus (hons) performance degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, MMus degree from the Royal Academy of Music and an LRSM performance diploma. I have also completed the LRAM teaching course and have also taken Alexander Technique lessons, the skills from which I incorporate in my lessons when necessary (in order to avoid aches and pains!). I also teach theory as part of practical lessons as students progress.
Potential pupils should be aware that it may not always be possible to keep to a regular time each week due to my performance commitments, but every effort will be made to fulfil the agreed quota of lessons.
Lessons costs are as follows:
15 mins: 15 30 mins: 20 45 mins: 25 1 hour: 35 90 mins: 45Lucia D'Avanzo Teaching CV (PDF file, 143.1 KB)
Do you already own your own instrument? Although I am unable to provide students with instruments I can advise on where best to purchase or hire. It will not be possible to start lessons until you have an instrument - practise makes perfect!!
Lucia is also a qualified Stringbabies teacher and teaches children aged roughly 3-6 using Kay Tucker's brilliant method. Click the Stringbabies logo to read more about it!
Stringbabies lessons start at 15 for 15 minutes.
"Having resumed playing the violin after a 20+ year break, to play in a couple of local orchestras, I realised I needed some help! Lucia has reminded me of lots of things I was told when I had lessons in my 20s but has an excellent way of explaining why they are important and still making lessons enjoyable".
"I thoroughly enjoy my lessons with Lucia, not only is she a fabulous teacher but she is also a wonderful solo violinist and I feel my violin playing and technique has developed drastically as a result of her teaching".
"Lucia is a wonderful teacher. She is able to explain in both simple and complex terms and I've learnt so much over my first few lessons".
"Thank you ever so much! I'm really enjoying your lessons. You're a great teacher and my boyfriend is very impressed with my progress after just 2 lessons."
